Mary Rose Lyons RIP

It is with great sadness that we have heard of the death of Mary Rose Lyons, a lifelong member, developer and supporter of Naas Tennis Club.

Mary Rose was a member of the Leinster Council and a member of the Tennis Ireland General Council in the 1970's and 80's.

In 2004 she was presented with the Raymund Egan award for her contribution to Irish tennis and again in 2012 at Tennis Ireland's annual awards was presented with a Presidents award for her immense contribution to the development of the Sport.

In 2006, Mary Rose was also the recipient of the “Muriel Bolton Award” which recognises annually a Lady member of any club affiliated to the Dublin Lawn Tennis Council who has made a significant contribution as a player or administrator to the Dublin leagues.

Mary Rose was a tireless worker for her Club and Province. She held many roles within the club – Coach, Junior Chairperson, Ladies Captain, Honorary Secretary and also as Chairperson.

She was also heavily involved with senior tennis as a player and was an intricate cog in helping develop Naas Tennis Club to what it is today – driving many of the innovations around both club infrastructure and coaching development.

The funeral is likely to be held on Monday.
