College Tennis

LEAGUES

 

Currently there is no College Tennis League but DCU (Dublin City University), Trinity College and UCD (University College Dublin) participate in the DLTC (Dublin Lawn Tennis Council) Leagues. CLICK HERE for further information on DLTC run leagues.

 

STUDENTS SPORT IRELAND (SSI)

 

CUSAI coordinates Sports activities for Irish College and University students. Sponsored by the Irish Sports Council, it is a member of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the International University Sports Dederation (FISU).

The main tennis events during the year are:

Intervarsity Games 

There is an Intervarsity event held once a year, usually at the end of February. The venue changes on a year to year basis. All the main universities and some of the Institutes of Technology take part on it. The 2008 games will be held in University College Cork. Dublin City University (DCU) hosted the 2007 tennis event which was won by the DCU Men's and the UCD Ladies’ Teams. Currently about 8 institutions have men’s and ladies’ teams.

The winners of each Irish event go through automatically to the European Championships.

 

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

They are organized by the European Universities Sports Association (EUSA). In 2007 they were held in Moscow at the beginning of December. Dublin City University will host the 2008 Championships which are scheduled for the 9th to 13th of December.

 

NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CHAMPIONSHIPS


The Irish National Universities Championship was held for first time the 26-28th October 2007 at Westwood Clontarf Club. The winners of the men’s and ladies' singles draws are selected to go to Paris with the Irish National University Team to play in the BNP Paribas Masters, organized by the EUSA  in early December.

2007: Winners: Simon Wrafter (DCU) and Laura Milner (DCU).

2008: Winners: David O'Connell (DCU) and Jenny Claffey (UCD).

 
EUROPEAN COLLEGIATE TENNIS ASSOCIATION (ECTA)

 
Formed in 2007, the European Collegiate Tennis Association(ECTA) is an association involved with promoting university tennis in Europe via increased competition in both individual and team events. For further information visit their website: www.ectatennis.com
